The Inn at 410 is our very favorite place to stay when we’re in Flagstaff, Arizona.

This historic property was first built in 1894, and in 1907 was significantly remodeled into a two-story Craftsman-style bungalow by Thomas E. Pollock, a wealthy banker, rancher, and prominent Flagstaff businessman.

In 2003, Gordon Watkins, formerly with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, purchased the property and turned the mansion into an award-winning Bed & Breakfast Inn.

We enjoyed the Monet’s Garden suite which is located just outside the main house and featured its own private porch looking out over the Inn’s garden patio.  And, as we walked in the front door of our little cottage we found the walls of our room delightfully painted by a local artist along with a stunningly beautiful hand-painted panel capturing the character of Monet’s garden in Giverny.

Our room offered all the niceties that a luxury traveler would expect complete with a large jetted tub, and a nice walk-in bath with comfy robes and even Gilchrist & Soames oatmeal soaps.  After a long hard day of travel, we found our room to be a wonderful respite to wind down our day.

Another delightful benefit of staying at the Inn at 410 is that you are a five-minute walk from Flagstaff’s historic district which offers travelers wonderful early-century architecture, art galleries, and the areas very best restaurants.

During our stay, we walked to the Criollo Latin Kitchen and greatly enjoyed hand-crafted, Latin-inspired, locally-sourced food.   YUM!

Speaking of food, included with your stay is a wonderful breakfast each morning.  From 8 to 9 a.m. you are certain to find owner Gordon Watkins wandering among the guests serving up delectable breakfast fare and offering up great local travel tips.

Here’s Carol enjoying breakfast with our great friends from Michigan, Bob & Karen Schroeder.  Of course, as always, I’m the one behind the camera.  And that’s Gordon standing in the background pouring a piping-hot cup of espresso roast coffee to a guest.

And just look at the wonderful breakfast that Gordon put in front of us!  Wow!

Gordon mixes up the breakfast menu each day, and has become quite well known for offering delicious entrées like a southwest frittata, baked apple custard french toast, hash brown pie, blueberry buttermilk pancakes, fabulous scrambles and quiches, and even lemon ricotta pancakes.

Heck, with this hearty of a breakfast, you may well find yourself passing on lunch to save room for a delightful dinner on the town.

Lest I forget, every afternoon, Gordon also stocks his afternoon Tea Table with fresh cookies from the oven, seasonal iced tea or hot cider, hot teas or coffee, and even a vodka or brandy with mixers.
