Viking River Cruises is the unquestioned 800-lb gorilla in the river cruise industry.  They have triple the number of ships of their nearest competitor, and remarkably, they continue to create raving fans with very high satisfaction ratings.

And, not to rest on their laurels, Viking a few years ago entered the small-ship ocean cruise industry with Viking Ocean Cruises and they are now disrupting the ocean cruise industry which I recently wrote about at this link.

Carol and I have sailed both Viking Ocean and Viking River and give both big thumbs up.  While their ships are not designed to cater to the ultra-luxe crowd desiring white-gloved butlers, they do bring a luxurious experience which might be summed up as a 4.5-star experience.
