Carol and I have lived in Scottsdale, Arizona for eight years now, and the springtime cactus bloom never ceases to amaze us.

Except for a few weeks out of the year, this cactus sits in our front yard looking rather homely, thorny, and frankly, kinda ugly.  However, each year in the spring, the most beautiful flowers present themselves.  As you can see, they are strikingly beautiful, and appear to be all out of proportion for such a small cactus.

People ask us all the time about the best time to visit Arizona, and our answer is always the same: March and April.  The temperatures are moderate (70s & 80s), and the desert is abloom with the most beautiful flowers you can imagine.
