Schnebly Hill Road Scenic Drive in Sedona, Arizona
Schnebly Hill Road Scenic Drive ~ Sedona, Arizona – The Roaming Boomers® love to explore back-country scenic drives, and this one will take your breath away.
The road starts right out of the town of Sedona and provides jaw-dropping vistas as you ascend nearly 2,000 ft. on seemingly countless switchbacks.
Shortly after you leave town, the road becomes gravel and can be quite bumpy in spots. You should be fine driving the road to the summit in a passenger vehicle, but you will want to drive carefully and keep your eyes peeled for Pink Jeep Tours bopping up and down the mountain road.
At the summit, there is a parking lot to pull over and enjoy the view. You might want to bring a picnic lunch as the scenery is likely to keep you captivated for quite some time. If you do intend to spend some time at the summit, you will need a Red Rock Pass. If you simply give the summit a quick gawk, you will be fine without the pass.
If you are not in a high-clearance vehicle, it is from here that you will want to turn around and head back down the hill. The road does continue all the way to I-17, but a high-clearance vehicle is required.
Here is a short video that we put together to highlight a bit of this remarkable scenic drive. Enjoy!
Note: this road has severely deteriorated over the years. We drove this over the weekend and found the road to be VERY rocky. It was so rocky that we could only drive 1-2 miles/hour as we climbed over large rocks in the road. We were in our ML350 and we would not advise this trip unless you are driving a true 4×4 with significantly higher road clearance that we had. DO NOT try this road in a passenger vehicle.
