The Palouse in Washington State
The Palouse in Washington State
The Palouse in Washington State gave us serene and pastoral views as we made our way from Spokane to Clarkston to join our river cruise on the Snake & Columbia Rivers.

Carol and I were unprepared for the beautiful landscapes we experienced on our river cruise. The first of our spectacular views occurred as we made our way through The Palouse down to the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers.
The Palouse features a treeless landscape with undulating hills as far as the eye can see.
Our guide shared with us that The Palouse is one of the world’s greatest regions for growing wheat.
If I remember correctly, our guide told us that a typical acre in the heartland of America might produce 30-40 bushels of wheat per acres. And remarkably, The Palouse’s fertile soils make 100 bushels per acres possible.
I’ll never forget the views were experienced as we traversed this area. And what was even more exciting, this was just a hint of the views to come.
